From solar installer to diet chef to digital business developer - the choice of apprenticeships is huge. The Zurich careers fair is an opportunity for all young people looking for an apprenticeship to find out about their many options in an interactive environment.

Practical tips for the career choice process

How do I impress at a job interview? What are the benefits of a vocational baccalaureate and why does gender make no difference to the profession? The Zurich careers fair provides helpful answers to precisely these questions at the short events in the forum. In the application campus, young people can have their own application documents checked, take a professional photo or talk to current apprentices about the career search process.

A profession with a future

"Our working world is constantly changing. Increasing automation and networking require new skills from today's professionals. Basic vocational training must be designed in such a way that young people are taught these new skills," says Thomas Hess, Managing Director of the SME and Trade Association of the Canton of Zurich (KGV). The current example is the new vocational apprenticeship Developer:in digital business EFZ developed by ICT-Berufsbildung Schweiz in collaboration with various stakeholders, which started for the first time in August 2023. Apprentices support companies in their digital development. They work at the interface between people, business and technology and are involved in various digitalization projects, for example evaluating digital trends and analyzing data.

Sustainability as a career path

The three-year apprenticeship as a solar installer EFZ and the two-year apprenticeship as a solar technician EBA are also new and will be offered for the first time in the 2024/2025 school year. Around 150 companies offer apprenticeships for the next generation of solar installers. Solar installers have a varied outdoor profession in which they make a major contribution to the energy transition.

Another important key position in the sustainable circular economy system is the job of an apprentice recyclist. This job is not just about collecting and sorting waste, but also about expanding the understanding of resources and actively participating in protecting the environment.
