Pawi Packaging now uses district heating from Stadtwerke Winterthur

Over the course of 2023, Stadtwerke Winterthur took significant steps towards a sustainable energy supply by installing high-performance district heating pipes on Rudolf-Diesel-Strasse in Winterthur and elsewhere. Pawi Packaging Schweiz AG seized on this progress and invested CHF 330,000 in the switch to environmentally friendly district heating from Stadtwerke Winterthur.

Until now, Pawi Packaging had been using three large gas heating systems that had been in use for over a decade. Gas was used exclusively to heat the offices and for hot water. The decision to connect to district heating from Stadtwerke Winterthur in 2021 was a strategic measure based on its comprehensive sustainability strategy. Edoardo Finotti, Co-CEO Operations, says: "Our decision to connect to Stadtwerke Winterthur's district heating system is another step towards a more sustainable future. It not only enables us to make considerable cost savings, but also contributes to a significant reduction in CO2-emissions."

The investment of CHF 330,000 in this forward-looking conversion means that Pawi Packaging will not have to make any further investments in heating systems in the coming decades. In addition, there are no maintenance costs, as no tanks, boilers or flue gas systems (chimneys) are required. Thanks to district heating, the packaging producer is also helping to save an impressive 141,282 kilograms of CO2 per year.

The secure hot water connection supports Pawi Packaging's firmly anchored sustainability principles: The hot water supplied is ecological, locally produced, odorless and available all year round and around the clock based on a central control system from Stadtwerke Winterthur.

Finotti adds: "Switching to district heating from Stadtwerke Winterthur is not only a strategic decision, but also an active contribution to environmental protection. It enables us to reduce our operating costs and at the same time take an important step towards sustainability."
