Atos joins Green Lab initiative in Bern
Atos is now an active member of the Bern-based Green Lab initiative. As part of GreenBuilding.ch, the initiative supports Swiss research institutions to reduce their energy consumption.
According to the Paris Climate Agreement, Switzerland has committed to halving greenhouse gas emissions within this decade and, by 2050 at the latest, to produce only as much CO2 as can be sequestered. Among other things, this means: The energy requirements of industrial and building complexes must be drastically reduced.
Like Green Lab the numerous laboratory complexes in Switzerland, a country of research, have a significant impact on its eco-balance: Compared to an office building of comparable size, a laboratory consumes up to ten times as much energy. A considerable proportion of this - 90 percent in extreme cases - is needed to operate the infrastructure. Renewing this infrastructure is therefore often cheaper than trying to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow with yesterday's infrastructure, says the Atos press release.
Who is involved in Green Lab?
In addition to Atos, the Green Lab members include energy and real estate companies, construction firms, infrastructure specialists, and the technology group Siemens, an important Atos partner. The participants have set out to accompany the transformation to more digitalization, security, sustainability as well as competitiveness with a total of 23 programs and events this year alone. Atos will be involved in many of them under the leadership of Bruno Schenk, CEO of Atos Switzerland, according to digital transformation provider.
Net zero until 2028
Atos made the commitment in February, Achieve net zero emissions by 2028. Thanks to its many years of experience in the areas of digital transformation, automation and decarbonization, the company offers an exchange of experience within the Green Lab initiative as well as sound advice at the interface of safety, sustainability and competitiveness.

The expertise that Atos brings to the initiative is focused on four areas: Digitization of work processes, laboratory automation and integration, change management to support transformation, and decarbonization. In addition, Atos offers tangible technical solutions, for example in areas such as robotics and digital twin for simulation, to support adaptation to new working models and practices. Atos plans to share its expertise through webinars, workshops and roundtable discussions, the company concludes.
