Focus on the circular economy
This year's SAQ "Swiss Quality Day" will take place as a digital format on May 4, 2021 and focus on the topic of circular economy. A concept from nature for the economy - "Nice to have or must have?
"When in early May the Swiss Quality Day takes place, then the so-called 'Overshoot Day' within reach. On this day, the Swiss population has consumed more natural resources than it is entitled to for the whole year. Hence the criticism: "If everyone lived as we do, we would need the raw materials of three planets," writes Swiss President Guy Parmelin in his welcoming address on the occasion of the traditional SAQ event, which is held as a virtual event.
Producers must rethink
And the Federal President goes on to conclude: "A rethink is needed today. Both consumers and producers must reduce their demand for materials, natural resources and products. Specifically, we need a more sustainable economic system. But recycling alone is not enough!" That's why the answer for President Parmelin is the circular economy. The basic idea behind it: As far as possible, no resources should be lost (cf. also here).
