CLEAN-UP TOUR 2019: The first, national waste clean-up tour in the mountains.
The first CLEAN-UP TOUR is on! Like every winter, several million skiers whizzed down the Swiss slopes this season. They left behind a lot of waste. The Summit Foundation, in collaboration with various partners, is launching a national waste collection in about 20 ski resorts.
The goal of the CLEAN-UP TOUR 2019 is not only to clean up the slopes for hikers, but also to raise awareness about littering in the mountains. In the mountains as elsewhere, litter has various impacts on nature; from water and soil pollution to harming wildlife. Cigarette butts, bottles, plastic packaging, cans or even smartphones, the melting snow reveals many surprises.
For nineteen years, Summit Foundation has organized and supported numerous clean-up actions in the mountains. To underline the importance of the issue and unite all the actions throughout the country, the Vevey-based NGO launches the CLE
AN-UP TOUR 2019 with a dedicated website. Summit Foundation is committed to promoting awareness of these actions to raise awareness about littering in the mountains. The new platform www.cleanuptour.ch allows everyone to find out where and when the garbage collections will take place and sign up accordingly.
All regions considered
In order to optimally represent all regions of Switzerland, the Clean-Up Tour is organized with partners from French-speaking Switzerland, German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino. Actions are planned in the Vaud Alps (Villars), the Grisons (La Punt - S-chanf), Central Switzerland (Engelberg-Brunni), the Jura (Buttes-La Robella) and Ticino (Airolo), among others.
The "highlight" of the tour will take place on Saturday, June 8 in Valais, this in collaboration with "Ski Valais", where during the whole day will be cleaned in about ten different ski resorts in Valais. The dates and locations of all actions are available on the platform www.cleanuptour.ch apparent.
