Liridona Makica wins the swissalbs Entrepreneur Award 2024
The Albanian-Swiss association swissalbs has announced the winner of the coveted Entrepreneur Award for 2024. For the first time, the award, which is being presented for the fourth time, goes to a woman: Liridona Makica, founder and managing director of Spitex Dona, based in Kloten. The award ceremony took place as part of the swissalbs Entrepreneurs' Ball on September 7 at the sold-out Kongresshaus Zurich.
In addition to the Entrepreneur Award, the swissalbs Board of Directors presented the Community Hero Award for the first time this year. The winner is Islam Alijaj, National Councillor and disability rights activist. He was honored for his outstanding performance and his successful election campaign, which saw him become the first Swiss politician with an Albanian migration background to be elected to the national parliament.
The swissalbs Entrepreneur Award recognizes exceptional entrepreneurial achievements, celebrates the innovative strength of the Albanian community and serves as an inspiration for the entire swissalbs community. Liridona Makica was selected for her outstanding achievements by a top-class jury consisting of personalities such as Roland Brack, founder of Brack.ch, Nadine Jürgensen, co-founder of elleXX, Andri Silberschmidt, National Councillor, Vllaznim Xhiha, serial entrepreneur and Kristian Kabashi, founder of Numarics.
Liridona Makica is the founder and managing director of Spitex Dona, a company that provides professional care and support services for people in their own homes. Her vision of running a Spitex that is different from many others - namely family-oriented and flexible - was at the heart of founding the company in 2021. Spitex Dona now employs 50 people and offers a wide range of services, including medical care in the somatic and psychiatric fields as well as palliative care. A special feature of the company is the careful planning of care teams in order to minimize staff turnover. This allows patients to develop a personal relationship with their carers, which is crucial to improving their quality of life and enabling them to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.
Swissalbs recognizes Liridona Makica for her contribution to the care and support sector
Liridona Makica's swissalbs Entrepreneur Award recognizes not only her achievements to date, but also her significant contribution to improving people's quality of life through innovative and personalized care and support services.
In her acceptance speech, Liridona Makica emphasized: "I am deeply honored to receive this prestigious award from swissalbs. It is not only a recognition of our work to date, but also a confirmation that our approach of providing family and flexible care is the right way forward. I share this success with my dedicated team at Spitex Dona."
"Liridona Makica and her team at Spitex Dona have proven that innovation and commitment in the care and support sector can have a significant impact on people's quality of life. The fact that Liridona Makica is only 31 years old and already managing a company with 50 employees in such a demanding sector is impressive. Her success is an inspiring example of how a visionary approach and passionate implementation can bring about real change in the healthcare sector," says Arbela Statovci, co-founder and Head of Communications at swissalbs.
The swissalbs Entrepreneurs' Ball, where the award ceremony took place, offers an interesting platform for networking, exchanging ideas and exploring new business opportunities. As in the previous year, the event was hosted by food blogger and TV personality Zoe Torinesi. Musical highlights were provided by Selami Kolonja, an established singer on the Albanian music scene. A special keynote speech was given by Marco Gredig, Managing Director of Cargologic AG, the leading Swiss air freight handling company for 70 years. In addition to honoring Liridona Makica, the event also included live music, entertainment and inspiring speeches.
