Cisco Study: The Market for Managed Services in Switzerland is Growing
IT channel partners focusing on managed services can look forward to strong growth this year. This is shown by a global study commissioned by Cisco and conducted by Canalys. In Switzerland, channel partners could already see $4.7 billion in revenue in 2022. This is an increase of 14.3 percent compared to the previous year.
According to the study, more than one-third (35 %) of partners worldwide who sell managed services currently expect growth of more than 20 percent. More than one in five see an increase between 11 and 20 percent (21 %) or from 1 to 10 percent (23 %). While overall IT spending is expected to grow 3.5 percent globally by 2023, Canalys forecasts managed services to grow 12.7 percent.
In Switzerland, according to the study, more than US$4.7 billion was generated by managed services from channel partners in 2022. The largest EMEA markets are the UK with US $23.8 billion and Germany with US $22.2 billion, followed by France with sales of US $13.7 billion. In the same range is Italy with 5.7 billion US dollars in sales, Spain with 4.9 billion US dollars and Sweden with also 4.7 billion US dollars. Total sales in the EMEA region amounted to 121.7 billion US dollars.
At 14.3 % in 2022, growth for managed service in Switzerland is just below the EMEA average (15.2 %). The strongest growth is in Italy (16.0 %), ahead of Spain (15.8 %) and France (15.2 %).
Revenues are spread across many partner shoulders in all countries - Canalys counts 148,347 Managed Services partners in the EMEA region. In Switzerland, there are 4,315, and Germany has the highest value within Europe with 16,843.
"The channel remains a strong growth driver in Switzerland," says Niema Nazemi, channel leader at Cisco Switzerland. "We continue to see strong momentum in managed services and provide solutions to our partners to help them make their customers successful. This is working very well in Switzerland."
Growth opportunities through cybersecurity and cloud infrastructure services
According to the channel partners, the highest potential for revenue growth lies in the cybersecurity segment. 56 of the channel partners state that they expect revenue growth in this segment. Reasons for this could be the dynamic threat landscape and a global shortage of cybersecurity professionals.
The study further proves that cloud infrastructure management will continue to offer enormous growth opportunities in the future. When companies digitize their operations and move to the cloud, they have to manage a complex infrastructure. This includes private and public clouds as well as distributed applications and services. Accordingly, the need for cloud infrastructure management and expertise is increasing. 55 percent of channel partners expect revenue growth in this area. Network Managed Services is also well ahead with 53 %. It is therefore not surprising that the most common managed services offered by partners worldwide are also network management (e.g. WLAN) with 71 % and cybersecurity with 69 % among all managed services partners.
"The core drivers of managed services growth are classic network business and IT security. But partners also see newer technologies such as AI and the increasing importance of sustainability as business opportunities," adds Niema Nazemi. "Our customers are integrating more and more technology and automation into their operations and expect agility, value and flexible usage models from their IT partners to efficiently manage their growing and complex technology needs."
