Newly formed Swiss industry group with focus on MedTech

The family-owned company Jossi AG, based in Islikon (TG), is settling its succession: the two owners Armin and Heinz Jossi are selling their company, which has 120 employees and sales of CHF 30 million, to the Inovu Group. The latter acquired Brütsch Elektronik AG, based in Uhwiesen (ZH), in March 2018.

Jossi AG now joins Brütsch Elektronik AG under the umbrella of the Inovu Group with focus on MedTech: This group of companies with the subsidiaries Brütsch Elektronik and Jossi now combines 250 employees and a turnover of CHF 75 million. Inovu is majority-owned by various Swiss entrepreneurial families under the leadership of the investment company Kontivia. Oliver Brütsch as the largest single shareholder and the management teams of Brütsch Elektronik and Jossi are also involved.

Focus MedTech

Jossi develops and manufactures precision equipment on behalf of customers for applications in medical and laboratory technology as well as for other demanding areas. The company operates at the sites in Islikon and Wängi (TG) as well as with a subsidiary in Jihlawa (Czech Republic). Jossi is headed by long-time managing director Philip Howis together with Cuno Weisser, Head of Supply Chain.

Brütsch Elektronik supports leading medical technology manufacturers in the development and manufacture of their products. As a strategic outsourcing partner, the company accompanies its customers throughout the entire product life cycle. In addition, the company is active as an engineering partner in the automation business. With 130 employees, the company generates sales of CHF 45 million. Long-time CEO Markus Simmen will hand over operational management of the company to Oliver Brütsch at the beginning of next year.

Complement along the value chain

The new Swiss industrial group essentially operates as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner with a focus on medical technology. The expertise of the two companies ideally complements each other along the entire value chain, which includes development, industrialization, production, and service or support of product applications over the entire life cycle. The complementary core competencies of Brütsch Elektronik (software development, electronics and mechatronics) with a focus on innovation/engineering and Jossi (mechanics, drive and cooling technology) with a focus on industrialization enable the Inovu Group to offer its customers a broad range of services from a single source. The closing of the transaction will take place in the next few weeks.

Solid long-term succession planning with an industrial Swiss solution

Armin Jossi: "In recent years, Jossi AG has distinguished itself as a competent system builder in the medtech industry. Substantial investments are necessary for the expansion of this position and the associated further growth. Under the solid umbrella of the Inovu Group, I see excellent conditions and development prospects for this. With the future sister company Brütsch Elektronik, there will be interesting synergies and additional benefits for our customers. I am pleased that this solution, which builds on our current strategy, will provide a convincing solution to the succession issue for our family business. In particular, it will also secure our jobs in the Frauenfeld region in the long term."

Alexander Krebs, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the buyer: "The foundation of the new group of companies is formed by two successful Swiss family-owned companies with a similar business model and complementary core competencies, which can position themselves more broadly by joining forces for successful further development. We are very much looking forward to the new partnership with Jossi AG, which will continue as an independent company."
