Paper supplier relies on its own photovoltaic system for power supply

The official inauguration of Antalis Switzerland's new photovoltaic system in Lupfig took place on November 2, 2023. The system was deliberately planned as part of the renovation work on the park building. In future, a significant proportion of Antalis Switzerland's electricity requirements will be covered by renewable energy. The company is thus sending out a clear signal for sustainable business practices.

Antalis Switzerland's large-scale photovoltaic project was completed within seven months. It comprises 954 solar panels and was installed on the parking deck of Antalis in Lupfig on an area of 1840 m2 installed. This generates an average electricity output of 378,000 kWh per year. Lighting accounts for around 50 percent of electricity consumption at Antalis Switzerland. Over an area of 42,000 m2 The company's own merchandise and customers' goods are moved in two shifts in Lupfig. With the new photovoltaic system, Antalis Switzerland will be able to cover a considerable proportion of its own electricity consumption in future.

Several innovative sustainability projects

The new photovoltaic system is one of several major sustainability projects that Antalis Switzerland has implemented in recent years. As a leading distributor of paper, packaging solutions, visual communication materials and hygiene products and a provider of individual logistics services, Antalis is active in a wide range of industries. Its sustainability efforts are correspondingly diverse. In the area of mobility and logistics, the company has been relying for years on rail transport with its own rail connection directly to the warehouse as well as climate compensation and electric cars. The lighting concept in all buildings and especially in the warehouses has also been continuously converted to LED over several years, resulting in noticeable electricity savings. Another current project is BlackSatino - a completely new recycling concept for the washrooms. Antalis is the first company in Switzerland to use BlackSatino. The aim is to reduce the ecological footprint in the area of washroom hygiene by up to 65 percent. An intelligent recycling concept is used: the used folded towels are consistently recycled and reprocessed together with Miscanthus fibers (elephant grass) to make new hygiene paper.

"The topic of sustainability is part of our company DNA. For us, it goes without saying that we are looking for improvements in various areas, including our own products. At the same time, it also means that we are prepared to invest in new things. This is also laid down in our strategy. We want to promote and help shape innovative projects," says Andreas Schraner, CEO of Antalis Switzerland.

Sustainable management will remain a major priority in the future

The Antalis photovoltaic project is one of the largest parking deck photovoltaic systems in the region. "We are proud to have realized a project of this size so quickly. The opportunity to cover part of our electricity requirements with our own renewable energy sources helps us to further improve our sustainability footprint," emphasizes Andreas Schraner.
