With the Biodiversity Award, the Sophie and Karl Binding Foundation is looking for pioneering projects in settlement areas that have brought about a high level of biodiversity. With the second call for entries, the foundation wants to find new role models that show how modern, densely built-up settlement areas can be combined with the promotion of native flora and fauna. The foundation emphasizes that it is particularly looking for solutions that can be transferred to other locations, are thus scalable and have a broad impact. Particularly desirable are projects that have produced innovative, integrative and effective solutions thanks to the participation of various stakeholders.

Promoting health and quality of life with biodiversity

A great deal can be achieved for biodiversity in the planning, construction and maintenance of properties and sites. Naturally designed green spaces would contribute to climate protection and adaptation, increase the attractiveness of the location and contribute to recreation and health promotion. Such approaches, which combine the promotion of biodiversity with an increase in the quality of life, are in demand, as the foundation writes.

Submit groundbreaking project

The foundation and the six-member expert jury invite project teams from the fields of planning, construction, maintenance as well as authorities, organizations and project groups to submit their already realized projects for the promotion of biodiversity in urban areas. The prize is not aimed at individuals or at projects on small areas of less than 5000 square meters.

All information on how to participate in the call is available on the website www.preis-biodiversitaet.ch is now available. Projects can be entered using the online form. The deadline for entries is January 31, 2022.
