Environmental protection organization ECO SWISS has turned 50

ECO SWISS - the environmental protection organization of the Swiss business community - officially celebrates 50 years of existence on May 24, 2019.

Daniel Christen has been Managing Director at ECO SWISS for a good 10 years.

Although possibly unknown to some, ECO SWISS is one of the oldest environmental protection associations in Switzerland. It came into being in 1969 through the founding of the then Association for the Promotion of Water and Air Hygiene (VSWL). Measurements as well as consultations in the field of emissions and immissions were in the foreground at that time.

Customers were both manufacturing

companies and energy suppliers as well as the public sector. In 2000, the "Occupational Safety & Health Protection" department was added, as was the "Large Tank Farms" department in 2006, which effectively supports the enforcement of the cantons throughout Switzerland.

400 member companies

In 1969, representatives of the business community decided to promote environmental protection in their companies and henceforth to play an active role in federal environmental protection legislation. The focus of the efforts then, as now, was on individual responsibility and uniform enforcement throughout the country. Since then, ECO SWISS has undergone gratifying development and today comprises 12 industry associations and over 400 companies.

Today, ECO SWISS presents itself as a modern organization for the promotion of operational environmental protection and occupational safety. It represents a pragmatic, target-oriented environmental protection and supports the companies in a technically sound and practice-oriented way. In this way, ECO SWISS provides an outstanding and effective service in the service of the environment.
