Wind energy without disadvantages

VentoStream wind turbines are much smaller than conventional wind turbines and have no visible propellers: nothing moves. This makes wind energy production more efficient and environmentally friendly. The Swiss start-up VentoStream presents a completely new production technology without the disadvantages of conventional wind farms. It strengthens the acceptance of wind energy. The Swiss Climate Foundation is one of the first supporters of the new wind energy technology.

The start-up company VentoStream in Bubendorf near Liestal in the canton of Basel-Landschaft is developing and building a new generation of wind turbines.

VentoStream is currently designing and building the beta version of the pre-market model "VentoStream Type T1". Series production will then begin. The concept and the prototypes have convinced the committees of the Swiss Climate Foundation: they are supporting VentoStream with a grant.

A new wind power technology without disadvantages

VentoStream wind turbines have some decisive advantages over large propeller wind turbines: they are significantly smaller than conventional wind turbines, contain no visible moving parts and are therefore harmless to birds and bats. Ice throw is not possible and shadow flicker is not an issue. No heavy equipment is needed for construction and the components do not have to be delivered by air, sea or land, which is costly and CO2-intensive.

Not only is the structure less burdensome, it can also be dismantled without leaving any waste behind. The individual components can be easily recycled. In short: VentoStream wind turbines have only a minimal impact on the landscape and are an alternative for the local population, landscape and nature without the side effects of conventional wind turbines. Six VentoStream T1 turbines on a comparatively low mast generate the same power as a conventional wind turbine.

Increasing acceptance through more landscape and nature conservation

"As VentoStream invalidates practically all the objections of wind energy opponents, public acceptance of wind power is also likely to increase significantly," says founder and CEO Manuel Bernsau. "With our technology, we are also demonstrating the innovative strength of Switzerland as an industrial location - we are ready to make an essential contribution to the transformation of the energy system."

The Swiss Climate Foundation supports projects by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that contribute to climate protection in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. "Following the adoption of the Electricity Act, VentoStream closes a sensitive gap between the demands of the energy sector and those of nature conservation and environmental protection organizations," says Vincent Eckert, Managing Director of the Swiss Climate Foundation. "We need wind power in the energy system - but we also need to protect the landscape and nature."
