CreaLab - innovative ideas from students for companies
Sustainability, the circular economy and smartness were the focus of the CreaLab teaching and development format at the School of Business at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW. Around 60 students developed concrete solutions for companies and organizations in an "innovative community".
Around 60 students of business administration at the School of Business of the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland FHNW formed an "innovative community" with lecturers and experts over the course of four days. The CreaLab teaching and development format offered students a unique platform to develop solutions for current social and economic challenges. With a focus on sustainability, circular economy and smartness, the students worked in a dynamic and creative environment on key issues for companies and organizations, including Bio Suisse, PostAuto AG, Kliniken Arlesheim and Schweizerische Rheinhäfen. The team from the Innovation and Space focus area at the FHNW School of Business organized the CreaLab as part of the "Innovation" integration module in the Business Administration course in Basel.
Sustainable meat and vegetable shipping
Bio Suisse tasked the students with the question of how they could further develop the online marketplace Biomondo. The working group proposed solutions for sustainable meat and vegetable shipping. Another group developed ideas for PostBus AG's luggage transportation. The students developed measures aimed at both existing and new customers.
Better microclimate for the port
For the Swiss Rhine ports, the students suggested, among other things, the formation of a port community to promote collaboration, as well as measures to improve the microclimate and reduce the heat in summer. "I am very pleased with the results. It was a major two-part task and the students developed sound, good solutions," said Thomas Zaugg, Head of Corporate Development at Rhenus Logistics.
The lecturers were also satisfied: "CreaLab 2024 once again demonstrated the potential of this course. It enables students to apply their expertise and thus develop solutions to issues relating to sustainable development," said Florian Jakob, research assistant in the Innovation and Space focus area at the FHNW School of Business.
Since 2019, CreaLab has regularly offered companies and organizations the opportunity to bring in their individual challenges and have them addressed by a dedicated team of students and experts from various disciplines.
