Lyreco unboxed: The largest B2B sustainability congress in Switzerland
With the motto "openly and honestly unpacked", Lyreco Switzerland AG is organizing its customer event in a new format for the first time, thus setting new standards.

Lyreco Switzerland has always managed to stay one step ahead when it comes to sustainability in recent years. This was also the case with the customer event on January 25, 2024 in the Umweltarena Schweiz in Spreitenbach. Under the motto "openly and honestly unpacked", over 1000 guests from business, science and politics were able to find out why failure is so important when it comes to making supply chains more sustainable.
How does "one way" become a genuine circular economy, which technologies make supply chains more efficient and sustainable, and which measures help to make informed purchasing decisions? Lyreco has brought over 30 experts to the stage who really have something to say. From science to entrepreneurial practice, from corporations to start-ups and from climate seniors to the youngest generation, whether in a session, panel or exhibition. Lyreco unboxed is a recurring format that addresses the topic of sustainability in an authentic and bluntly open manner across all formats and unpacks it along the entire supply chain.
Why a sustainability event of this magnitude?
"Lyreco has been committed to sustainability for a long time," says Thomas Illi, Managing Director of Lyreco Switzerland AG, "not least with our commitment to the Science Based Target initiative, sustainable delivery and the consistent implementation of an environmentally friendly product strategy, we are already setting an example for a net-zero future." Now, with "Lyreco unboxed", the leading service provider is building a unique and honest bridge from the mission "We are pioneers and sustainably deliver everything a workplace needs so that our customers can focus on the essentials." to the customer. "We want to inspire and motivate our customers, partners and employees, not with a pointing finger, but with lots of knowledge and fun!", Thomas Illi continues.
How is a sustainability event implemented?
Lyreco consistently aligns its measures with its vision, which is why this year's customer event was implemented in as reduced a way as possible. "An initial analysis of the CO2-emissions of the Unboxed event has shown that around 90 % of emissions are generated in the areas of mobility and catering," explains Tina Kempf, "We therefore avoid transportation wherever possible and rely on vegetarian, seasonal and regional sourcing, preferably from organic farming, for our catering concept. But that's not all. Lyreco sets itself the following goals when organizing an event in the area of sustainability:
- Wherever possible, avoidance of transportation or use of collective transportation, short logistics routes and use of electric vehicles.
- Employees travel to the event by public transport.
- The catering concept is vegetarian, based on regional procurement and organic cultivation. In addition, a procurement radius of 40 km is used.
- Avoidance of print products in large print runs, use of electronic communication channels.
- Location was chosen with regard to sustainability criteria, so that the electricity is sourced from environmentally friendly energy (hydropower, biogas, solar systems) from the Zurich/Aargau region.
- The exhibition and the event furniture are 100 % reusable, so the furniture is consistently rented and Lyreco reusable boxes are used for the exhibition, for example, which are then returned to circulation as event boxes for the delivery of customer orders.
- Unavoidable waste is carefully separated and disposed of properly or passed on for recycling.
- Motivating participants to actively contribute by asking them to travel by public transport.
The fact that at an event with around 1000 guests the CO2-emissions cannot be completely avoided, Lyreco is aware of this: "Unavoidable emissions are accounted for and invested in the Swiss mountain forest project through financial support via corporate volunteering," says Tina Kempf.
Sustainability is a change that is neither trivial nor black and white, which is why supply chains need transparency and alliances. This is what the provider of workplace solutions offers with its new format "Lyreco unboxed: openly and honestly unpacked", demonstrating its commitment to moving forward with responsibility, innovation and a pioneering spirit.
The annual customer event organized by Lyreco Switzerland serves as a networking platform and is traditionally seen as a symbol of thanks for successful collaboration. From now on, emissions are also to be reduced for events year after year as part of the Science Based Target initiative. An event guide created on the basis of this event serves this purpose.
