The digital transformation offers Swiss companies great potential for innovation, growth and optimization. In order to exploit this potential, companies must adapt to change at all levels and respond to the increased complexity with innovative solutions. They need specially trained specialists who can take a holistic view of digital innovations and implement them profitably in interdisciplinary teams. With the launch of its new Master's degree course in Human-Centered Digital Innovation (MSc HCDI), the FHNW School of Applied Psychology is responding to companies' need for specialists with interdisciplinary training.

Innovative concept

The course combines knowledge from psychology, computer science, technology and economics and is characterized by a novel methodological and didactic concept: Skills are acquired both in the classroom and through practical immersion in companies. In interdisciplinary groups and accompanied by coaches and experts from the field, students support companies in digital innovation projects with process-oriented and technical input. Equally important is the ability to adapt to new challenges and acquire new skills in a self-directed manner. This so-called "learning agility" is taught during the degree program through structured learning coaching.

Diverse field of activity

The MSc HCDI is aimed at people with a Bachelor's degree in psychology, computer science, engineering or economics who wish to combine these skills with those of other disciplines and deepen them as part of a practice-oriented course of study. After completing the course, graduates can enter directly into the practice of digital innovation. They are qualified to develop innovative, data-based services or products and position them on the market in a success-oriented manner, as well as to transform processes within the company and anchor innovations sustainably.

Innovation expert takes over as head of degree program

Christoph Hunziker will head up the course. The business economist FH has more than 20 years of practical experience and an extensive network in the field of innovation. He is a board member of Action Jam, the network for innovation management in Switzerland, and most recently headed up the innovation department at Mobiliar Insurance. He will take up his position as MSc HCDI course director on October 21, 2024.

Inter-university study program

The FHNW School of Applied Psychology offers this course in close cooperation with other FHNW schools and partner companies.

There are 25 study places available in the first phase, which starts on September 15, 2025.
