When the World Skills Championships start in Lyon, France, in less than six months' time, the SwissSkills National Team will have the largest delegation in history. On September 10, 2024, the 47th WorldSkills Championships in history will open in Lyon (Fra). WorldSkills 2024 will put apprenticeships and young professionals in the spotlight. Around 1,500 competitors from over 65 countries will come together in Lyon to compete in 59 professions. Whether floristry or cyber security, welding, metal construction, clothing design or hotel reception: WorldSkills 2024 in Lyon will give young professionals the opportunity to put their skills to the test and share their passion with hundreds of thousands of visitors.

The SwissSkills National Team, which was extremely successful at the last WorldSkills Special Edition in 2022, which was held on a decentralized basis, with 19 medals in 34 competitions, is right in the middle of it all. The excellent results of the past once again set the bar very high for the 45 members of the Swiss national team, as did their own expectations.

17 cantons, three language regions

Preparations for the SwissSkills National Team began in mid-January with the first team weekend in Schwarzsee (FR). The 45 competitors will be supported by 42 experts. Switzerland will compete in 41 skills (competitions). This makes it the largest Swiss national team ever to take part in WorldSkills. No fewer than 17 cantons and three out of four language regions will be represented in Lyon. Only one competitor from Italian-speaking Switzerland is missing from this year's line-up. With eleven women, around a quarter of the SwissSkills National Team is female.

In cooperation with the experts, employers and the respective professional associations, preparation will be steadily intensified over the coming weeks and months. The individual competitors will invest no less than around 1,000 hours of training in the run-up to the desired success. The preparation program together with the SwissSkills National Team also includes several joint training weekends. In addition to competition-specific tasks, physical and mental aspects as well as dealing with the media will also be trained.
