Km costs: electric cars cheaper than combustion engines

Once again, TCS has calculated not only the cost per kilometer, but also the total cost of the five best-selling gasoline and electric cars of 2020.

The kilometer costs for the TCS average vehicle (gasoline engine, purchase price 35,000 Fr. and 15,000 kilometers annual mileage) will drop by one centime in 2021 compared to the previous year and will be 70 centimes per kilometer. This is shown by the annual mileage cost calculation of the TCS.

Electric vehicles are worthwhile

The lower fuel and service costs of electric vehicles, accumulated over ten years of use, compensate for the somewhat higher new prices for e-vehicles above a certain mileage, as TCS writes. The higher the mileage, the greater the potential fuel cost savings for e-vehicles. Compared to the previous year, this difference is smaller,

  • since with electricity costs of 0.2 Fr./kWh (previous year 0.15 Fr./kWh),
  • Gasoline costs of 1.45 Fr./liter (previous year 1.61 Fr./liter),
  • Diesel costs of 1.53 Fr./liter (previous year 1.73 Fr./liter)

was calculated.

Here you can find the total costs (calculation of TCO, i.e. total cost of ownership) of the five best-selling combustion engine passenger cars and electric cars in 2020 (calculation for 75,000, 150,000 and 300,000 km): tab-top-5

Real-time data from www.ich-tanke-strom.ch

The public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in Switzerland is being steadily expanded. In order to document this development, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy regularly evaluates the real-time data from www.ich-tanke-strom.ch and derives key figures on the public charging infrastructure in Switzerland. These key figures are now freely available as open data and can be viewed as a data visualization at www.ich-tanke-strom.ch/kennzahlen as the Swiss Federal Office of Energy writes.
